Three of my favorite fashion blogs are:
Thrifted Shift, Sydney's Fashion Diary, and Rock Oomph. They are moms who are able to look stylish and influence blogsphere while taking care of little one(s).
In my opinion, anyone can look good with time and effort. But mom bloggers haven't the time, and must put forth extra effort. That's why these women impress me -- because of their ability to juggle between fashion-ista and mom.
I'm not on the same playing field as these women.
At least not when it comes to fashion. But I've blogged long enough to have tricks under my belt that easily transition a mom to a fashion blogger. If you're a busy mommy trying to blog more, or a blogger becoming a mom someday, the tricks below might help you out.
1. Plan ahead.
With whatever time you have, like during the kids' nap or when your husband's home, put an outfit together.
Better yet, put two or three outfits together.
2. Portable makeup.
Assemble essential cosmetics -- that'll be concealer, mascara, eyeliner and bronzer for me -- into a makeup bag so you can access them on the fly.
The portability works well for going out, but applies to inside the house as well: when I'm alone with the kids, I'll put them in their room, which is completely baby-proof, and put makeup on as they play. Otherwise, they'd be in the bathroom with me, and one of them might climb into the toilette.
3. Take your camera everywhere.
Pictures in natural light look the best. So I usually take outfit pics during family outings on weekends. After reaching destination, the kids are usually sleeping in their car seats -- perfect opportunity to ask my husband for quick snaps.
Also -- and thank goodness we live in Seattle -- most locations make stunning backdrops.
4. Invest in a camera tripod.
On days when the "photographer" is absent, I use a camera tripod and a wireless remote. They take little time to set up, but help a lot.
I have a Ravelli APGL4 New Professional 70" Tripod with Adjustable Pistol Grip Head. It came with a carrying bag. I also have an RFN-4 Wireless Remote Shutter Release for Cannon EOS. (Currently using a Rebel T3.)
5. Simple style.
Nowadays, life is simple, and so are my clothes. Choosing casual, classic and transferable pieces, like today's blazer, jeans and pumps, enables fashionable yet mom-friendly style.
Little windy that day. Fall has certainly arrived in Seattle. |
Pictures were taken at a quaint little town called Edmonds, WA. It's just outside of Seattle. |
The beach front was very serene. |
The neighborhood, including downtown, is cute and sweet. |
My tripod is a life saver. Your outfit is great...a blazer, tee, and jeans is one of my favorite combos!

This is such a great blog topic and it's funny because I was actually thinking of it yesterday. Now that I'm married of course the topic comes up about kids and I thought 'how do mom's balance their fashion blogs, especially during the pregnancy part' and I remember how great you always looked and it's such a good tip about taking the camera everywhere because I'm sure time is limited. I definitely admire you being able to handle it all and post so many great well written posts beyond just an outfit. :)
