Weekend Recommend - Healtheries

This is a sponsored post.

About Healtheries

In 1904, two kiwi flour millers in New Zealand built a business dedicated to "the belief that the natural, healthy goodness of stone-ground flours should be easily available to everyone."

Over a century later, the company practices the same philosophy, but offers many more products. In 2007, Healtheries became New Zealand's largest health and wellness product manufacturers -- and it hopes to become the world's largest some day.

Why Healtheries

  • It's a globally-recognized brand.
  • It's a leader in its industry.
  • It's been in business - and thriving - for over 100 years.
  • All products are 100% New Zealand manufactured.
  • It has a wide variety of products, including healthy foods and multivitamins.

  • Why I Like Healtheries

Healtheries puts customers first. Its website, for example, is searchable by health concerns. The feature is great for people who want to cure specific illnesses.

Healtheries also provides gluten free recipes, which is helpful for clean eaters.

Lastly, Healtheries has kid-friendly foods, and I can't say the same about other health stores.

At Home Face Peel with The Skin Regime - Initial Review (Skin Care Blog Post)

Glycolic Acid Solution - a main ingredient of an at home face peel.

    I did it!

Finally mustered enough courage to try an at home face peel -- and it was horrible!

    Kidding.

My first ever at home face peel turned out better than expected, and cost $20 at the most.

Thanks to Dana (of The Skin Regime), who not only encouraged me to do a peel in the first place but also supplied a sample Glycolic Acid Solution, I'm now a believer that peels don't require extravagant procedures with preposterous prices.

(According to PlasticSurgery.org, chemical peels cost over $700.)

    But wait! Did it work?

    I don't know.

Because healthy, glowing skin, which is my skin care goal, takes time and consistency, I don't know if this particular at home face peel offers that yet.

(Sorry to disappoint. Just being honest.)

Also, for a first attempt, I performed the peel on my hand, and not my face. (I know. What a wimp!) In today's skin care blog post, I can only inform about materials used, procedure, and immediate impression.

    More to come though.

Because of my attempting of better skin care, which includes this face peel every few weeks, I plan to document long-term progress in later posts. Due to a positive first experience though, I'm hopeful about achieving better skin.

    Ingredients

    They're surprisingly simple.

Summer Treats at Red Mango, Where Frozen Yogurt and Smoothies are as Pure as Red Mangoes Themselves

    This is a sponsored post.

Seattle is having a beautiful summer.

Truly the best summer yet: plenty of sunshine, frequent outings, and a plethora of summer treats to enjoy. My favorite though, as far as treats go, is frozen yogurt. It's healthier than ice-cream, but still satisfies a sweet tooth.

You can imagine my excitement, then, when Red Mango contacted me for a sponsored post.

Get paid to eat fro-yo? Count me in.

How to Recover from a Binge (Fashion Blog Post)

    fashion blog pic

    fashion blog pic

    Yes I cheat!

After a recent blog post about clean eating, which you can read here, I received a question from Jiye (Gia) Lee of Dressed Up Files asking if I have cheat days.

Yes I do. In fact, when I do, I binge on really unhealthy foods.

But I try to recover quickly.

Usually within a day or two.

Feeling sorry for myself doesn't accomplish one single goal, so why waste the effort? Instead I follow a recovery process that swiftly puts me back on track.

It's easier said than done though.

Because eating clean all the time requires painstaking discipline, even a one-time slip buries me with emotions. Getting over the initial hump of regret is the hardest part, and that's why I've prepared an arsenal of recovery methods to speed things up.

Weekend Recommend - 10 Essentials of The Tough Girl Look (Fashion Blog Post)

    I'm a bad @ss.

Just kidding. I'm a 35-year-old mom in a conservative neighborhood who shrieks at the sight of a baby spider.

I'm no bad @ss. But I like to dress the part by wearing something that's sort of tough-looking. Mostly because the Tough-Girl look allows casual clothing that I don't mind ruining in this line of "work."

    Street and military...

are two images that come to mind when composing the Tough-Girl look, which I absolutely recommend you wear. Especially if you have an office job. You'll appreciate a refreshing change in wardrobe that's relaxed, unpretentious and...

    Yes! Even bad @ss.

Summer Time with Firmoo - Free for New Customers (Fashion Blog Post)

    So proud of my husband.

He's finally getting prescription sunglasses -- and getting them from Firmoo.com

I introduced him to Firmoo after reading about it on other beauty and fashion blogs. The reason why he chose the store was because he liked the website and the prices.

I'm so proud of him! For years, I nagged to him about not wearing sunglasses in the summer.

Seattle may be cloudy most of the year, but when it gets sunny, it gets blindingly sunny. That's why I always protect my eyes with sunglasses, and wish that my husband did the same. His excuse was that he needed prescription glasses, and they're costly. But because of Firmoo's fair prices -- the store is offering a July special that provides the First pair for free -- my husband has no excuses.

Summer Time Skin Savers (Skin Care Blog Post)

Warning! Today's Skin Care Blog Post contains explicit vocabulary, and may not be suitable for children.

    35 - it's so far away.

I felt enormous pity for Carrie Bradshaw when she turned 35 on an episode of Sex and the City, but a great deal of relief for myself. It'll be forever til' I become that old, right?

    My turn came too soon.

Then I realized how pitiful 35 truly is.

Years of sleep deprivation, dehydration and poor nutrition all seemed to emerge overnight--the night of my birthday, that is.

Oh f*ck me hard! What happened to my skin! I've got craters, and blotches, and holes and stuff.

Well, haha. This girlie got served! (With a piece of humble pie.)

While everyone's out bronzing in the sun, like I used to every day in the summer, I'm the homely mother-f*cker under a colossal hat, piling sunscreen on every body part.

And I mean EVERY body part. I spent five minutes applying sunscreen on my toes today, before realizing what a paranoid weirdo I've turned into.

Not worried yet? You'll be 35 too someday.

And you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. But if you want to be less pitiful than I am, then don't do what I did, and be more thoughtful about skin care.

    Especially in the summer.

    Thanks again for reading.

And putting up with my vulgar choice of words today.

    (We all rant occasionally, right?)

    Happy Hump Day!

Who loves Polyvore? (Fashion Blog Post)

    fashion blog

    Who loves Polyvore?

    Who doesn't.

For the fashionably-challenged fashion blogger (finger totally pointing at myself), whose attempt at even the simplest style ends in failure, Polyvore is a saving grace.

On Polyvore, not only can you build an outfit from scratch, experimenting with colors, shapes and patterns of variegated sorts, you can exclude the not-so-obvious wrongs that only show up after you've slaved over an entire outfit post.

Fashion blogging has treacherous demons too. No, really, I am absolutely serious. (NOT!) The blunders, the faux pas, the what-was-I-thinking's, all of them posing as the perfectly put-together ensemble, glorified by the annoying habit of "too much enthusiasm," and shoving aside a nice little friend called "common sense" -- Polyvore destroys them all!

Eat Clean with Me - My Clean Eating Food Diary

Clean Eating is NOT a diet!

It is a lifestyle choice of eating -- or in my case attempted eating -- of non-processed foods.

Clean Eaters don't shy away from fats or limit their caloric intake. Rather, they opt for foods, fats included, that are pure in ingredients and naturally good for the body.

Clean Eating Vs. Dirty Eating - a Noticeable Difference

Due to increased motherhood duties, I became lenient in my clean eating habits. After about two months, I've realized a HUGE difference! Not only is my body looking bloated and dumpy, energy level went from tip-top to non-existent. I've become so lazy that I skipped the gym, which used to be a favorite past-time, for days in a row.

I gained about 5 lbs. too. It sucks! (I know I said clean eating is not a diet, but my personal goal is to lose postpartum weight. Just wanted to clarify.)

A few days ago, I began to eat clean again. Once more, body toned, energy regained, and weight dropped.

Wish I have before-and-after pictures, but I don't. So you'll just have to believe me when I say that clean eating works.

    Eat clean with me!

    Because it's healthy.

Lose weight, live longer, etc. -- no matter what fitness goals you have, consuming hearty, healthy foods is the best way to start. And if you need help getting started, check out my food diary below. Perhaps it can be of motivation, or give you meal ideas?

    My clean eating food diary:

    7:30 a.m. - One bottle of water

Water consumption is extremely important in clean eating. I started the day with a bottle of water.

    7:30 a.m. - Breakfast

A banana and hard boiled egg whites provided the carbs and protein I required for breakfast, the most important meal of the day.
