A Trip to Ross Clothing Store - Happy Mother's Day to Me!
I wrote an article for a local newspaper once, and interviewed a young lady about her opinions of stay-at-home moms.
Not knowing that I was a stay-at-home mom myself, and that I wrote as a freelancer, she answered my question in complete frankness. I don't remember her exact response, but she used words along the lines of "unambitious" and "lazy."
Ouch!
No matter what people claim, the "desperate housewives" stigma does exist.
If you ask any of the stay-at-home moms I hang out with, she'll tell you that she does back-breaking work, often gets looked down upon, but have never regretted one minute of choosing to stay home with her child.
I'm not here to rally; I'm not here to compare stay-at-home moms with working moms; I'm here to ask you all to put yourselves in other people's shoes before you judge.
Also, I'd like to say, "Happy Mother's Day!"
To all the hard-working moms out there: go treat yourselves!
For me, I treated myself to a trip to Ross Clothing Store.
Entire outfit, minus the bracelet, is from Ross. |
Good Practices for Shopping at Ross Clothing Store
Ross is awesome!
Where else (in Seattle) can you find brand new, 5-dollar tops that has a decent brand?
However, clothes-shopping at Ross can be tricky. If you aren't careful, you walk away with dirty, broken, or plain tasteless clothes. They are like worthless junk.
As a frugal stay-at-home mom, discount-shopping has become a hobby. I'm not a pro, but have picked up good practices for shopping at Ross Clothing Store.
If you shop at Ross too, then I hope the tips below help you find great deals, and not worthless junk.
1. Clearance only.
Why shop at Ross?
For deals, of course! So don't even bother browsing the regular-priced stuff, unless you want something specific.
Head straight to clearance. If you go to a discount store, then you might as well get the best deal possible.
2. Skip the trends. Stick with the staples.
The reason why a lot of clothes end up at Ross is because they are out of season. Even if something looks on-trend, it'll be out of style soon.
Staple pieces, however, stay fashionable all the time. They are worth purchasing, especially at massive discount.
In today's Fashion Blog post, I've included three staples from my wardrobe -- gray knit, skinny jeans, and leopard flats.
For a comprehensive list of clothes I consider to be staples, click here to find out.
3. Don't go overboard.
It's Ross, not a lunar eclipse. It'll be there tomorrow.
I know you feel excited about all the great deals, and want to buy everything. But remember that the same deal comes all the time. It's Ross's business model to sell cheap, so don't give into excitement.
I always try on as many clothes as I can carry, but walk away with just a few.
4. Check. Double-Check. Triple-Check.
Because I've bought ripped and stained stuff from Ross before, I always check items at least three times before purchase.
Does Ross accept returns? Of course. But who needs the hassle?
5. Don't expect a red carpet.
Ross is a discount store after all. Don't expect exceptional customer service. Though most Ross employees are very polite, there are rude ones too.
Happy mother's day to you too! you looks super fit and pretty :) That's a great post btw tc
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother’s Day!
ReplyDeleteI don’t know why people look down on stay-at- home moms. They raise their children, cook, clean, care for their husbands, etc. It really is a lot of work. My mom is a stay-at-home mom, and we all turned out great :)
Thanks for the shopping tips. I was planning on shopping at Ross here pretty soon.
Happy Mother's day!! I cannot believe someone was rude enough to say that SAHM are unambitious and lazy! After seeing friends with their children, I cannot believe how much work it is to raise a child. There's nothing lazy about being a stay at home mom, especially when toddlers are so full of energy and require your attention almost 24/7.
ReplyDeleteYour tips for shopping at Ross are great! Definitely agree that double or triple checking an item is super important.

ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day! I hope you enjoyed the day. :)
ReplyDeleteRoss is so amazing. But your right...you gotta be careful about what you get! I've also noticed the other shoppers there can be a little bit brutal too. Ya know the type...hardcore-bargain-hunters. Hahaha.

better than a dream.
ReplyDeleteOuch those comments are so not appropriate and I think you handled them very well.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great Mother's Day!
Happy Mothers Day to you :) People really need to think before they speak. I don't have a Ross anywhere nearby so I don't shop there. Great advice though!
ReplyDeleteI don't get people...they're so weird.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to be a mom and have a child, what's wrong with raising that child and staying home?
Everyone can have a baby, not everyone can raise it to be a decent human being. In fact, most moms raise their children to be irresponsible dumb brats.
I think it's an important part of this child's development to be by its side and to pay attention to his growth. Not throw him like a hot potato at someone else with the first chance presented.
Hope you had a happy mother's day :D I love going to Ross and shopping the good deals! =) I've found many many great pieces there that lasted me years and years! ^_^
ReplyDeleteRosss, I love that place :)! I got my favorite Moschino and RL blazers are for over 70% off there ^_^

Another tip when shopping at Ross: If an item is even slightly defective: loose thread on boots, there's a light scratch on the decor you're buying, ask for a discount. ;)
