The Big Move

Guest post from: Constance Rodgers

I’ve been researching everything we need to know about Texas before we move. I’ve been looking into Electric Companies Texas and the school systems and whether or not we need to get fire insurance. I’ve been really excited about the move but now that it’s closing in on us I’m starting to get really nervous – I’ve never lived more than 100 miles from my parents and I am going to have a really hard adjustment moving to Texas from Oregon, I can bet you that. The kids are really excited because they’re not old enough yet to really miss any of their friends and be sad that they’re leaving their hometown. I think they seem to think it’s going to be nothing but horses and barbecue and big belt buckles all the time but since we’re moving to Dallas I know it’s going to be a lot more urban than that. My husband is nervous about starting his new job and I’m nervous about leaving mine – this will also be the first time I’ve been out of work since my daughter was born and I’m simultaneously looking forward to having more free time and dreading the inevitable feelings of boredom that come with being at home. I remember how crazy I felt by the end of my last maternity leave and I’d only been on bed rest for about 6 weeks! We’ve got the movers scheduled and we’re all ready to transfer the kids’ school records over to the next place we land them and my husband and I have already met some of the new neighborsin our new neighborhood. Lucky for me we’ve bought a house that needs a little bit of work so I’m going to have my hands full at least for a little bit getting it painted and getting the furniture in the right places and making sure it feels like a home for my family. There’s never been a better time for us to bond as a family!

Clarisonic Sonic Cleaning System - Why My Skin Loves It! (Skin Care Blog Post)

Words cannot express how much I love Clarisonic.

I have suffered open pores since my late 20's. As a result of dirt and oil getting into pores, I began experiencing adult acne too.

The acne looked quite grotesque. I tried desperately to remove them, but nothing worked -- not even heavily medicated pads -- until I found Clarisonic. (Instead of attacking acne from atop, what I needed was preventative cleaning from underneath.)

Do I still have open pores? Of course. But due to Clarisonic's exceptional performance, adult acne disappeared.

So what's so special about Clarisonic?

Asian Makeup Tips - How to Apply Dark Eyeshadow for Asian Eyes (Beauty Blog Post)

Asian eyes are different. Some of them do not have a fold, and those who do have a fold are not deep set.

While dark eyeshadow looks beautiful on Asian skin tone, if applied incorrectly, it looks unflattering on slanted eyes and flat facial structures. Asian eyes are already indistinct. If you wear a lot of dark eyeshadow, your entire eyelid will look taken over, or bruised.

It's important to utilize special technique when applying dark eyeshadow for Asians. In today's Asian Makeup Tips, I'll show you a neat trick that compliments Asian eyes with dark eyeshadow, and not the latter.

Get Bigger Hips - Fashion Tips on How to Make Hips and Bust Look Bigger (Fashion Blog Post)

Women with big butts are...

beautiful.

I mean it. I've always envied women with curves. I remember watching Marilyn Monroe in Some Like It Hot when I was 10, thinking, "how wonderful! I'm going to be voluptuous like her one day."

Unfortunately, "one day" never came. My body developed differently, and like most Asian women, it lacks T & A.

Well hey, it's okay.

Because I can get bigger hips without developing the "goods" biologically -- thanks to curve-forging clothes.

Please read the rest of this fashion blog post to find out what fashion tips make hips and bust bigger.

Make Hands Look Younger - The 3 P's You Must Practice for Younger-Looking Hands (Skin Care Blog Post)

She's 40.

Today's skin care blog post discusses a skin care topic that emphatically interests me

How to make hands look younger?

This interest started when I was 24. Our department hired a new female. She was gorgeous! Everyone thought she was in her 20's, except for one person.

"No!" He disagreed with certainly, "She's 40."

He was right.

How did he know?

Her hands, of course.

Airbrush Makeup Kit - Why Is It Better? (Beauty Blog Post)

I received a comment about last night's skin care blog post (on noninvasive cosmetic procedures):

Have you used any of them?

Answer is no.  At least not yet.

I'm afraid of the spreading of toxins by botox, but would consider peels and fillers in a few years. (A friend of mine highly recommends laser resurfacing, by the way.)

Right now, I'm more interested in obtaining full coverage, which is why I researched airbrush makeup kit.

Noninvasive Skin Treatments - A General Guide (Skin Care Blog Post)

1. Botox

Botox is a prescriptive medicine that is injected into your muscles to improve frown lines. It stops nerve impulses to the injected muscles that cause wrinkles.

It's a nonsurgical procedure, and takes little recovery time, but must be done by a health professional, and can cause problems with swallowing, breathing or speaking, or the spread of toxins.

2. Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing uses intense light to break down skin, making skin heal itself by recreating new cells. The procedure is more intense, and is used to treat wrinkles.

A full face treatment takes up to two hours, but doesn't require overnight recovery. Skin may take up to several days to heal. It is advised that you protect skin very well, especially from sun light, after procedure.

3. Dermal Fillers

Often referred to as "soft facelifts," dermal fillers add soft tissue for your skin and gives your face a youthful plump.

They are completely noninvasive.

They don't treat severely sagging skin, but can provide a soft lift.

4. Total Facial Rejuvenation

Total facial rejuvenation uses a combination of the above procedures to give you packaged youthfulness and allover appeal.

For more information about each procedure, and to see real-life before-and-after photos, please visit Sonata Laser, a westminster botox and laser aesthetics center.

The Worst Pickup Line I've Ever Heard

Short post today. Kiddo and I are battling a stomach virus.

Anyway, the worst pickup line I've ever heard:

Guy says: Hi. I'm an aerospace engineer.

You say: Great.

Guy says: If something's wrong with your airplane, give me a call.

(Slickly slides you his business card.)

You say: Okay. Thanks.

You think:

I'm sure when the airplane is going may-day, and I'm screaming for my life, you'll be the first person I call.

It's like saying: hi, I'm a heart surgeon. Give me a call if you have a heart attack.

Yeah - Effing - Right.

Have a happy weekend!

Thank You Kranich's Jewelers! (Fashion Blog Post)

A while ago, I wrote a fashion blog post introducing Kranich's Jewelers. (Please read the post here.) In exchange, Kranich's sent me a pearl bracelet.

After ecstatically opening Kranich's signature emerald-colored, gold-embroidered box, I slid the 7-inch strand of black cultured pearls out of a slightly padded pouch.

Business Casual for Young Women - Perfect Casual Office Attire in 3 Steps (Fashion Blog Post)

First of all, I am NOT a young woman.

But when I was young, like fresh-out-of-college young, I had a hard time figuring out what casual office attire is.

I just happened to join a team full of men, and none of them cared that I wore street wear like cargo pants. So I never learned. I wish there were female co-workers who can help me in the fashion department.

I know I named this fashion blog post "Business Casual for Young Women", but it isn't necessarily age-specific. It's just that because I had trouble differentiating between business casual look and street wear as a 23-year-old, maybe the fashion tips below can help young women just entering the work force more.

And if you happen to be in your 30's like me, or older, and find the tips useful, then great! I'm happy to be of service.

Asian Makeup Tips - Why Does Purple Eye Shadow Look Good On Asians? (Beauty Blog Post)

This is my second Asian Makeup Tips post. Content required a little research. I feel proud--but anxious too--about writing it.

Hopefully, readers enjoy this post, and possibly learn something interesting. I certainly did.
