How to Apply Eyeliner for Asian Eyes - Eyeliner Makeup Tips for Bigger Eyes

Posted by GirlieBlogger@Beauty Fashion Blog Seattle

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For a lot of Asian women -- myself included -- we behold big eyes as beautiful. This perception is possibly because most Asian women were not born with big, gorgeous eyes. We also constantly search for ways to make our eyes appear larger.

Some Asian women have gone to drastic measures, like getting double eyelid surgery -- ouch! But most of us try tamer options like using makeup.

In fact, you don't even need a lot of makeup or fancy tricks to create bigger eyes. Just an eyeliner can do the job.

Don't believe me? Try the three tips below.

Eyeliner Makeup Tips for Asian Eyes

Tip 1: Use the Same Color as your Eyes

Although contrasting colors bring out and brighten eyes, to make eyes bigger, it's better to use a color that is close to your natural eye color. This way, color compliments your eyes instead of competing with them.

For myself, I used a dark brown liner by NYX.

Tip 2: Draw a Camel Hump

Cat eyes may be sexy, but bigger eyes need the "camel hump" eye makeup application technique.

Draw a thick line at your top lash line. Make a "hump" in the middle part of the line.

A little hump in the middle...

...makes an instant eye opener.

Tip 3: Line Only 3/4 of Your Waterline

Instead of lining your entire bottom water line, line only 3/4 of the length. This way, your eyes are not "enclosed."

There you go. Easy eyeliner makeup tips for bigger eyes -- three steps and you are done.

Before: Small Asian Eyes

After: Lined and Bigger

Do you have any beauty and makeup tips to make eyes bigger?

  1. Haha! Yes! I do something similar! I just make sure the center of my line rises a lot more so it's like a hill! Otherwise you'd never see a thin skinny line on my eyes! That and tightlining with gel!

    There's definitely a difference!:)

  2. I have to try that eyeliner. I have natural eyes, not big and not small but wanted little bit bigger,lol.. I like the color you pick..

  3. I also have small eyes, even I'm not Asian :) On my top lash line I put a black line that is longer than my eye and rises a little bit. I do it with eyeliner. On low lash line I put a brown eye-shadow. I also put beige and brown eye-shadows on my eye-lid. And a lot of black mascara :) You can see it on my photos- I always have the same makeup :)

  12. I'm really bad at applying liner to my upper lid so I usually fake bigger eyes by using a highlighter in the inner corner and only lining half of my eye to give the illusion of bigger eyes.

  16. This is a great technique, I didn't know you can make eyes bigger this way! I usually just use black eyeliner and I wing it out, but I don't line my bottom line, so it kinda looks bigger.
    Good luck!

  26. I never thought about the camel hump technique but it makes sense! I also agree that you shouldn't line the entire bottom lid and leave it open!

  37. This is the first time I've come across this technique, very creative. As Ashley K suggested, using a highlighting color--such as beige, light gold, white, etc.--in the inner corner of the eye is another subtle eye opening technique. In addition, line the lower water line with the same color you use for your inner corner highlighter. The color you choose depends on your skin color of course and/or preference.I'd suggest a powder rather than a pencil, however, if you use a pencil just soften it with a brush. =)
