Do you have trouble finding the right eye makeup colors for your eyes?
Whether you shop drug stores or high end department stores, makeup brands always try to but never really oblige to an individual's eye color.
Being Asian, I have dark brown eyes. They are not brown. They are not light brown. They are almost black. It has been a challenge finding a suitable eyeshadow color for eyes as dark as mine.
Last year, I stumbled upon an olive- and green-toned E.L.F eyeshadow duo. The colors looked so earthy, I wondered if they would be good eyeshadow colors for someone with dark brown eyes like mine?
A pretty pair -- E.L.F eyeshadow in olive and green
|
This eye palette cost around $2 - so affordable, right? |
|
This E.L.F eyeshadow palette contained rich pigmentation. I especially liked the olive color. |
E.L.F eyeshadow swatches
|
The olive and green colors looked very nice on the skin. |
In all honesty, the olive and green eyeshadow pleasantly surprised me. The colors blended well and looked subtle and becoming.
Here's an eye makeup how to with my E.L.F eyeshadow duo:
Step 1
Use an eye makeup brush, apply olive eyeshadow to your lids.
Keep it below the crease lines.
|
An eye makeup brush is great for application. |
|
Here's a tip: Dab shadow on in small, steady motions. Don't just sweep across the lids. |
Step 2
Apply green eyeshadow to just the outer corner of your crease line.
Blend green and olive eyeshadows.
|
Remember to blend well. Don't go into the brow bone. |
Step 3
Using a blending brush, apply cream-colored eyeshadow to the brow bone.
Using another E.L.F eyeshadow here.
|
To highlight, a blending brush is a must. |
|
Apply highlighter in circular motion gives the best results. |
Step 4
Curl lashes and add mascara.
Done.
|
Subtle olive and green - great for day. |
|
Keep the rest of the face muted so that focus is on your eyes. |
Do you like olive eyeshadow?
What are your favorite eyeshadow colors for brown eyes?
I haven't tried olive before, but I've traditionally gone for neutrals (browns, greys) and purples. Those olive swatches may show promise for my dark brown eyes, too!
ReplyDeleteI definitely love olive eyeshadow! I have this mac shadow called "Sumptuous Olive" that looks just like the shadow that you used! :)

I love this post! Why? Because I have dark brown eyes and it is a trick to find an affordable eye shadow color that flatters and shows up on the eyelids.
ReplyDeleteFor me, I have sort of cinnamon brown eyes, and I found that deep gold or copper shadows and burgandy/purple hues (but have to be dark) look good with my eye color. Like you, I discovered this accidentally, and don't read about this anyway.
The green looks great on you! I never thought to try green and olive and will definitely consider this in the future!
I Love e.l.f and this is a really cute color :D! Thank you for this review!

ohh gorgeous the olive is to pretty on you!!
ReplyDeletePretty pretty pretty! My eyes aren't as dark as yours, and depending on what I wear, they can almost look like a dark hazel, but they're definitely brown. I find that purple or navy make them pop, or one of my latest favorite makeup tricks, wear a gold shadow on my lid, with matte brown in the crease, and then line with an evergreen pencil on tops and bottoms (I don't go all the way to the inner corners because it closes my eye too much), then go over the pencil with an evergreen shadow. If I'm feeling REALLY crazy, I'll use a really bright, electric turquoise pencil (but the same evergreen shadow over that). It REALLY makes them pop.
ReplyDeleteI like that olive green color but I have blue eyes and I think that is not is for me!
ReplyDeleteFabulous! I didn't think to try this. It looks great :D Thanks!

I always find choosing eyeshadow for brown eyes challenging... I don't wear anything crazy in my day to day life, but it's nice to be able to try a colour once in a while instead of just brown or peach. My go-to when I want a bit of colour is Satin Taupe by Mac, it's a deep greige that looks lovely. Highly recommend it. I've never tried olive before but it's beautiful on you, I'll have to give it a go!
